So Why Black?

I get asked this a lot, why only black? And I always say the same thing… it’s never felt limiting to me. If anything, it’s felt freeing. Black has always been my go-to. I’ve dipped into colour over the years, but I’d inevitably come back to it. I used to shop saying “If only it came in black…” not realising at the time that this instinct was shaping a more curated, conscious way of dressing and moving me away from trend-led shopping.

As fashion cycles have sped up, that pull towards black has only grown stronger. The constant churn of micro-trends can feel overwhelming, but black cuts through the noise. It feels grounding, both in how I dress and in how I source preloved and slow fashion pieces. It allows me to focus on silhouette, texture, and craftsmanship rather than what’s “in” that season, which is where timeless style really lives.

And the versatility is endless. Black can be dramatic or minimal, structured or fluid, vintage or directional. It holds power in whatever form it takes. For me, it’s a kind of dopamine dressing, it brings confidence, clarity, and a real sense of self. Whether it’s head-to-toe or a single grounding piece, black always creates impact… and that’s why I’ll always come back to it.
